Shawna & Russ Bourgoyne 6/15/19

Alright y'all, last throw back for the weddings! After this one I will be blogging about more current weddings, bridal events, and different tips and tricks for your special day! But for now, let's talk about the Bourgoyne's! I was referred to them by my every favorite venue, Ashley Manor, and when I met them for coffee (and their interview 😊) I could see that they were the perfect example of the phrase "Love has no time limit." They both admit that they came to each other a little later in life, which there is nothing wrong with that, but sometimes we often wonder why God or the universe or fate let us go so long without showing us our true soulmate. And soulmates they were!

They had their rustic, country themed wedding at the Ashley Manor barn, with a small, intimate, special wedding. There were three bridesmaids, three groomsmen, and two flower girls, along with their beloved family and friends, all gathered there to celebrate such a special couple!

So, on to their story: How did Shawna and Russ meet?

Shawna and Russ met through some mutual friends. Russ was friends with the husband of one of Shawna's coworkers and thought that they would hit it off well. So, they started talking and went out on a few dates and have been together for 2 and a half years before they became Mr. & Mrs.

But, Shawna, how did he propose?! They were at home together, and Russ kept it low key because that was unique to them. They loved spending time together at home whenever they could. So Russ proposed to Shawna at home, just the two of them. Shawna said that she was very glad Russ did it that way instead of making a big to-do about it.

You could see when Shawna and Russ spoke about or to each other in the interview, the love that just gushed from them. They were each other's person, and it was obvious that they made each other incredibly happy. Then came the part of the interview where I asked them what it was about each other that made them fall in love?

Shawna: It was pretty quick, but definitely by the second or third date we started to see how much we had in common.

Russ: Even still to this day, it's like hanging out with your best friend.

With so much in common, I asked what it was that they liked doing together. Let me tell you, they like to do EVERYTHING together: concerts (especially Jason Aldean!), sporting events, family time, etc. But they also like to do things individually, like Shawna loves spending time with family any time she gets, but when hunting season rolls around, Russ likes to be in the deer stand! As with anything, love and marriage are a give and take and I think hunting season isn't that much of a compromise. 😉

One of my favorite question that I get to ask my couples is "How would you describe your fiancé to a total stranger?" I love this question for many reason, but mainly because you really notice how that person sees their spouse and all the goodness and love that this person exudes. This is how Shawna and Russ responded:

Shawna: Definitely say he's so caring and loving. So easy to be with, I mean, that's how I always describe being with him, it's just so easy and natural. He's my best friend.

Russ: Very beautiful and loving and generous. She always puts others in front of herself for sure.

Looking forward, after their wedding day, Shawna and Russ said that they were looking most forward to being a complete family, growing together, and bringing their families closer together. Shawna had another grandson on the way, so they were excited about the brand new addition to the family. The ultimate goal for them was to travel and grow old together. Having these experiences with each other is something they really wanted to focus on once they became husband and wife.

Here's to you, Bourgoyne's! Thanks for being part of the Timeless Weddings family!
