Jaci and I have known each other for a few years. She is an amazing photographer (check her out on Facebook: @Fleurdefocusphotography), and the sweetest person you'll ever meet. So, when she called me and said she needed me in a pinch (two weeks until her ceremony), I jumped at the chance to help her and make her day perfect.
Jaci and Trevor's son, Cole, was truly and gentleman, and knew he had a big responsibility that day because he was walking his mom down the aisle and giving her away! I made sure that he was comfortable and went over his one line for the ceremony, "I do." Even though he was excited to have such a big job on such a special day, he also was having a bit of a problem because HE wanted to "marry momma!" It was truly a beautiful moment to see just how much this little boy loved his mom (and his dad!)
This was totally a spontaneous thing. Not that they decided that day to get married, but rather that they were very open to whatever that day was going to be because they knew that it would be filled with love from all their family and friends. Jaci even decided last minute to walk down the aisle bare foot and it was absolutely perfect. They got married in the front of Central High School around all the beautiful, old oak trees. They had the most perfect, simple ceremony with immediate family, close friends, and an amazing violinist.
This was the first wedding that the couple asked me to make a "No Cell Phones" announcement, and I don't know why it wasn't something I suggested to couples before. Obviously, you can't stop everyone, but you can at least set the standard before the ceremony and your photographer will also appreciate it (trust me!). I have made it a habit ever since to ask couples if they would like an "unplugged wedding," meaning "Please don't take pictures with your mobile device."
So, on to their story: Trevor and Jaci met through mutual friends, but at first they didn't really hang out or talk. Trevor was the first to make a move and invited Jaci to a beach vacation, but Jaci said she didn't think anything would come of it. Soon they began a friendship and started falling for the many different aspects of their personalities. When I asked them what it was about each other that made them fall in love, they said:
Jaci: He's a hard worker, and a good cook. That's how you get to my heart, through my stomach! He's country, and easy going.
Trevor: Everything, but specifically, we always had good conversations, and we were friends first. She's a lot more mature as we are 12 years apart, even though I'm older. We make each other laugh, and we both love the outdoors.
Jaci and Trevor had been engaged for 7 years, so, like I said, it wasn't spontaneous in the way that you think. Trevor asked Jaci's mom for permission to marry her, and once he had her blessing, he made his proposal which was truly fitting for this couple. They were having a family party and he proposed before everyone got there in the.... wait for it.... laundry room! 😂
It is funny but when you think about it, and if you know this couple, it's so them! Jaci had to ask him if he was serious! But it was all sincere, even though he didn't get on one knee. They got engaged on their own terms and waited until they were ready for the ceremony, and that is something that I truly respect.
Something that was also very obvious with their relationship was that they support each other endlessly. They enjoy a lot of different things, some together, some separately. Jaci, for example, is a photographer, and Trevor is the one that bought her the first camera she had. He saw her talent and nurtured it, which is an invaluable quality in a partner. When I asked them how they would describe each other to a stranger, they both had some very insightful answers that showed just how much love they had for each other:
Trevor about Jaci: She's very energetic, and has a great personality. She can get along with anyone, whether they are rich or poor.
Jaci about Trevor: He's a hard worker and he can never sit still. He is a great provider for his family. He's funny and always makes me laugh. He is a great friend, and not just to me. He will drop everything in order to help a friend.
Even though it was on short notice, this was such a special ceremony for me. I loved the fact that I was able to help out, not only a friend, but a wonderful person as well! Here's to you, Sibley's!!
