This was the first wedding that I had the honor of doing, and it was beautiful. I'd known Liz and Chris for a while. Liz, an alum of Southeastern Louisiana University, was directing Much Ado About Nothing and I had been in her cast along with Chris. Ironically, I had no idea that Chris and Liz were dating at the time! When I found out they were engaged I was ecstatic for them! Liz sent me a message during the Christmas break asking if I would officiate their wedding. It would be my first one and I wanted to make sure I did their love story right.
Because it was a bit of short notice, I wasn't able to schedule a time where we both could meet to do the interview. We all had busy schedules around the holidays, but Liz was more than willing to answer the questionnaire via email, and their answers were nothing short of a reflection of a beautiful relationship.
They met working in the theatre, specifically a production ofA Doll's House at Southeastern. They became friends, and by their next production together they were dating. When I asked them what made them fall in love with each other, they both gave very specific answers:
Liz said: "What made me fall in love with Chris was just how well we fit together, I suppose. It is just easy to be around him in any situation no matter what we are doing and the more we hung out the more I realized I didn't want to stop. We just compliment each other's personalities and play off each other well. He's the structure to my chaos. I push him out of his comfort zone and he has become my comfort zone."
Chris said: "It's really not possible to pinpoint a thing. There are lots of things, but I can't list it. Imagine this, you're really good friends with someone, and you enjoy spending time with them and hanging out. Then, suddenly, one day, without either of you or your friend changing behaviors: everything they do gives you butterflies and makes you grin like an idiot. So to conclude, I don't know. It just happened.
Liz and Chris had be thinking and talking about marriage for a while, so it's not surprise that they simply "made it official" when Chris gave Liz the ring he had been holding onto. I thought it was a beautiful description (and totally them) when Liz described Chris as a burn marshmallow, meaning he puts up this front of being broody and generally has a "go away" attitude, but once you get past that, he's all gooey, sweet, and soft. Chris said that Liz was the "coolest person" he knew. He said "She's viral" meaning that her beauty and positivity is contagious.
Liz and Chris got married at the beautiful Island at D'arbonne at sunset. I could not have picked a more glorious setting for amazing couple. Here's to you Daltons! May you always make each other ridiculously and illogically happy!
